#ABOUT

Randall is an uppercase display typeface designed by Paul Marchiset in 2023 for the letterpress course at Vanier College in Montreal, named after the street where it was drawn. The brief was to produce enough characters to form the word "HANDGLOVES," which contains all the key letterforms of an alphabet — so as a typographer I designed a full set of uppercase glyphs, complete with diacritics and punctuation. I began with hand-drawn research on paper before moving into Adobe Illustrator, building a modular grid to construct each letter. The forms draw on Swiss and German design schools, favouring geometric precision and clarity. To finalize the details, I worked in FontLab 7, a dedicated type-design software, adjusting spacing and proportions for a polished result.
