Bringing the stage to the big screen

Ludic Alive is an ambitious live concert broadcast project produced by the association to which Timéo Binda belongs. Acting as the Executive Producer and true showrunner of the video production, Timéo invited me three years ago to assist with a simple recording. Since then, the project has grown into a highly professional multicam production operating on a demanding one-day turnaround. Within a single day, our team is challenged with rigging the equipment, performing color calibration, executing a three-hour live broadcast, and striking the gear. Our technical workflow now features professional vision mixers, remote-controlled PTZ cameras, and a remote operating station. To provide the audience with an even more immersive experience, our latest editions have integrated a roving wireless (HF) camera on stage and a drum top-shot camera, all with the ultimate goal of delivering a premium, cinematic live recording. As Co-Producer and Live Multicam Director, I work closely with Timéo to bridge the gap between technical deployment and artistic execution. My responsibilities begin with ensuring the camera rig and signal routing perfectly align with our technical schematic, which includes setting up video feedback screens so the musicians can see the live broadcast. While we partner with a professional sound engineer who provides the dedicated audio mix for our recording, I handle the camera shading to harmonize the colorimetry across several different camera brands. During the show, I direct the live cut, managing the visual pace and framing by communicating constantly via walkie-talkie with our on-stage and remote camera operators. Whether it is adjusting a live shot, managing wireless interference, or troubleshooting a video feed on the fly, I ensure a seamless visual experience from start to finish.
