Can singularity emerge from the general?

#ABOUT

Breathe is a high-concept narrative short that explores the friction between individual free will and a hyper-synchronized, silent society where human movement mimics the fluidity of water. The film is structured around a three-act "shift," transitioning from a monotone, "metronome" existence to a "free-form" awakening and a final resolution characterized by the protagonist's "non-presence". This journey is anchored by two central symbols: the feather, representing a fleeting invitation to freedom , and the apple, embodying the heavy weight of a permanent decision or "original sin" within a perfect system. To emphasize this mute society, the "Sound of Silence" was crafted using a rhythmic soundscape of environmental foley—such as synchronized door-slamming and typing—which is eventually shattered by the protagonist’s final, desperate attempt to breathe and speak. The project's realization was a masterclass in meticulous group organization and precise logistical planning. Our team managed the entire production chain, from collaborative brainstorming and localizing diverse filming sites, such as the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Kley 2 kitchen, to site reservations and managing a large group of extras. The casting process was particularly rigorous, requiring me to evaluate and choose from approximately 70 different candidates to find the ideal lead and supporting cast for our choreographed world. To ensure total synchronization across the five-day shoot, we developed a detailed "Prêt À Tourner" (PAT) document that served as our operational bible. This high level of coordination extended into an intensive post-production phase, where we harmonized our efforts in editing, sound mixing, and color grading to successfully deliver a polished final cut that distinguishes the monotone routine from the vivid moments of individual rebellion.
