Capturing the moment, managing the set: My journey with IUT WebTV

From 2022 to 2025, I had the opportunity to join the IUT Nord Franche-Comté's WebTV project, which was created for students and supervised by two teachers. Over the course of three years, I developed within this team and discovered a real passion for filming and directing. WebTV enabled us to produce and broadcast live events, including the Science Festival and three Open Days at the IUT. These experiences immersed me in the world of live production and enabled me to explore various technical roles. As director, I played a pivotal role in preparing and managing the set. This involved anticipating the arrival of guests, preparing the cameras and adjusting the colour grading to ensure a consistent and professional look. During live broadcasts, which were most often managed with four robotic cameras and one fixed camera, I had to remain highly attentive in order to provide viewers with the best possible shot at all times. This required precise angle selection and constant coordination, particularly with the robotic camera operator — a role that I also undertook. I even taught myself sound mixing for the last Open Day. These experiences taught me how to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Each Open Day involved 6–7 hours of continuous live streaming, not including preparation and breakdown. Over the years, I also had the opportunity to pass on my knowledge to subsequent generations of students. Training newcomers in various roles, such as directing and operating the cameras, was both rewarding and educational. WebTV not only allowed me to strengthen my technical skills, but also to develop my sense of management and pedagogy, fully embracing a collaborative and continuous approach.
